What kind of meditation is this?
At the London Shambhala Meditation Centre we practise meditation techniques that have been handed down over 2,500 years in the Tibetan tradition of Buddhism and taught to us by our Tibetan teachers Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
We present meditation as an opportunity to rest in what you already are — basic goodness,
natural peace and clarity. You train in being awake, placing the mind on the breath, in the
present moment.
Through the simple, regular practice of sitting meditation, you learn to develop friendship with your
mind, skill in how to work with speed and difficulty, and a sense of humour. Slowly you can let
the mind relax within itself, and let go of struggling with yourself.
Who will be teaching this course?
This course will be taught by Jim O'Neill, one of the most senior teachers at the London Shambhala Meditation Centre. Jim has been practising meditation for over 30 years.
Is there anything beyond this course?
If you decide you are interested in going further with the practice of meditation after this course, there is a rich range of offerings at the London Shambhala Meditation Centre. In particular, this course is the first component of a longer training called 'Way of Shambhala' that provides a thorough and deep grounding in meditation and how to use Buddhist teachings to discover a more meaningful life.
When will the course be held?
The course is in two parts: a weekend, followed by five evening classes.
In order to get a thorough understanding and some momentum to your practice of meditation, we recommend that you attend both the weekend and the evening classes. If this does not suit you, then it is perfectly possible to attend just one or the other.
